Upright Tablet Headstones
Dealing with the passing of a loved one can be an overwhelming experience. At Patten Monument, our mission is to help you honor your loved one in an effective and straightforward manner. Our upright headstones, upright monuments, and upright grave markers are the most suitable final gift you can give to someone whose memory you want to preserve.
An upright headstone is a tablet-format gravestone usually mounted on a granite base and set on a foundation. The tablet portion of the headstone is known as a die. Our upright monuments come in all shapes and sizes but may face restrictions due to local regulations. Check with the cemetery or location where your loved one will be buried for more information on their specific requirements and regulations.
These types of headstones are the most traditional type and are probably what pop into your mind when you’re considering a gravesite monument. They feature the information of one or two individuals engraved on the faceplate. The die portion of the headstone is typically vertical and is available in a variety of finishes, including:
Generally, upright headstones are taller than they are wide, although we are happy to explore options if you have something custom in mind.
Patten Monument Company wants to ensure your loved one is remembered the way you want them to be. That’s why we offer traditional designs for our upright headstones and monuments, as well as customized designs.
Our comprehensive selection of stones and granite ensures consistent, long-term durability. We are proud to offer several different color options, so you can be assured knowing your loved one’s monument has a perfect look. Do keep in mind, however, that granite is the most popular choice due to its durability, maintenance factors, and overall variability in terms of color.
Our color selection ranges from light gray to jet black. We also offer gorgeous pink granite. Regardless of your final decision, the final product will be calibrated to your exact satisfaction.
Additional colors we offer include:

The pricing for our upright monuments varies depending on how much customization is involved. More intricate designs are often more expensive. Additionally, the materials used and the overall size of the stone can cause the price to fluctuate.
At Patten Monument Company, we are happy to work within your budget. If you have questions about pricing or require some guidance to help you stay within a particular budget, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Upright grave markers are a little smaller than our upright monuments, which makes them perfect for more compact burial settings. We offer the same variety of materials for them and the same degree of customization.
Although they are the most widely used, monuments are sometimes considered unsuitable for a loved one. Additionally, some cemeteries have restrictions that make flat grave markers the more reasonable choice.
A grave marker is a flat, grass-level stone with many of the same engraving options as a traditional headstone. They are typically rectangular in shape, though they do not necessarily have to be.
While flat grave markers are a great option, especially if the cemetery has restrictions in place, the orientation of most upright headstones provides greater visibility and is often considered more aesthetically pleasing.
Given the wealth of customization options we provide, you can rest assured knowing that no matter the design, the final product will serve as a fitting tribute to your loved one.
There may be some additional stipulations required when finalizing your design. As mentioned, some cemeteries have stringent regulations on the sizes and shapes of headstones and other monuments. If visibility is a concern, it may be a good idea to examine the gravesite and take note of the surrounding gravestones. Regardless of the limitations, we are happy to help you find that spark of inspiration.
